Q. Why do I need to complete an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation

In Illinois, anyone arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs must undergo an alcohol and drug evaluation before sentencing can occur for the DUI offense, or restricted or full driving privileges can be granted by the Office of the Secretary of State.


Q. What happens after the evaluation?

The purpose of the evaluation is to determine the extent of the defendant's alcohol and/or drug use. Information gathered is used to produce a written assessment report which includes a summary and treatment/education recommendations:

  • Level I - Minimal Risk
  • Level II - Moderate Risk
  • Level II - Significant Risk
  • Level III - High Risk
